*As I was recently visiting one of our local park's tennis center, I chanced upon a pair of older gentlemen, Evram and Angus, who were sitting in the bleachers and instead of watching the tennis games that were in progress were concentrating on playing chess, not against each other but against a couple of chess computers that were apparently beating their brains out and thereby causing them a great deal of grief and agony, which they were expressing in no uncertain terms and in the loudest ways that they possible could, which (for some reason?)
caused me to question them and learn that a small but surprisingly significant number of people of all ages are presently amusing themselves in the Houston, Texas, area, by playing chess against computers, some in more formal...and better organized...settings, and some in public parks...like my new friends, Evram and Angus...and some just whenever and wherever they can.
*After visiting with Evram and Angus, I went online and tried to find some evidence of the small but surprisingly significant local community of computer chess enthusiasts that they had told me about, but after some "significant" searching I was unable to do so...however...I did find some evidence of a small but significant number community of conventional chess enthusiasts being present in the Houston, Texas area, and then concluded that this group may also include Evram and Angus's missing computer chess enthusiasts?
Note: While searching online I did come across what appears to be a potentially informative website at http://www.glenwilson.com/, which contains contact information for "The Houston Chess Club", including a telephone number, which is 1-713-773-2437.
