EDUCATION-THE VALUE OF A COLLEGE DEGREE?

*My thanks go out to Edith from Wharton, Texas, for her kind words about my earlier posting on the potential value of a college degree in modern America as opposed to a high school degree, and for sending me some additional source material in the form of a copy of an article (column?) that appeared in the 9/24/07 print edition of the Houston [Texas] Chronicle newspaper, that was titled "The Hard Truth:College isn't Always Worth it," which was written by Scott Burns, and which while not disagreeing with my general conclusion that a four years can be worth as much as twice what a high school degree can be worth to a US student, does point out some possible disadvantages that can be produced by earning a higher income, such as when a higher income requires the payment of a higher income tax, and later in life when various retirement benefits are being calculated, and in various other ways, which leads Mr. Burns to conclude that while getting a four year college degree may benefit many graduates it will not benefit all graduates.
*Mr. Burns' article may be found in the Houston Chronicle's archives, which may be accessed through their website at www.chon.com/ .
