*Public Education in the Houston, Texas area is provided by a number of very successful indepedent school districts. Unfortunately, the Houston Independent School District (HISD) is not one of them. However in all fairness, it must be said that HISD does a surprisingly good job, considering its limited resources and all of the problems that it shares with other similar big city public school systems.
