NOSTALGIA-INDOOR PLUMBING!

My thanks go out to Henrik, of Houston, Texas, who I recently met at a party to celebrate his one hundred and first birthday, for sharing his memories of way back in the early part of the twentieth century, when he was growing up as the son of a lumberjack in northern Minnesota, where indoor plumbing was not at all common, and where many of the things that we just naturally think of as being indoor activities today were in fact done outdoors...and as quickly as possible...to include the discharge of bodily waste...which was done either in very basic shelters...that were usually located as far away from the family's home as possible...and often unheated...no matter how cold the weather might be...or behind a convenient tree...for those who were too poor to afford a "basic shelter."

I'm a lot younger than a hundred and I can remember growing up on a farm in the south that did not have indoor plumbing.
