NOSTALGIA-THANKSGIVING DINNER!

*Recently, one of my neighbors told me that she wanted to celebrate her family's becoming American citizens by fixing them their first traditional American Thanksgiving dinner, which I thought was very commendable and told her so, but then after she asked me to tell her just what is supposed to go into a traditional American Thanksgiving dinner I had to confess to her that, if by "traditional" she meant what the original pilgrims served at the first Thanksgiving dinner...which I told her would be about as traditional as she could get...I did not know, because (1) I wasn't there, despite what my advancing age might suggest, and (2) the whole thing has evolved so much during the intervening four hundred years that it could now include just about anything that she wanted to fix, or to order from a nearby supermarket, which was what I suggested that she do, before she rejected my idea completely, because it would not be something that she had actually fixed for her family, which seemed to be so important to her that when she asked me again to give her some suggestions I immediately shared with her what little that I could remember about my own family's traditional Thanksgiving dinners, which usually included (1) A Turkey that had been slowly roasted and then basted with some kind of a glaze, and (2) some Giblet Gravy, and (3) some Cornbread Dressing, and (4) some Cranberry Sauce, and (5) some vegetables, which usually included at least some green beans with bacon, and then maybe (6) a sweet potato casserole...for everyone except me...and (7) some kind of a salad...of which Ambrosia was my favorite...and (8) lots of Biscuits and Cornbread...with lots and lots of real butter of course...and then (10) several desserts, including some Pumpkin Pie, of course, and probably a nice Pecan Pie...with lots and lots of whipped cream, of course, ...after which my neighbor thanked me and then returned home to get an early start on preparing to give her family their first traditional American Thanksgiving dinner.
