QUESTION-TRAVIS MCGEE?

QUESTION: Who was Travis McGee?
ANSWER: Travis McGee was the protagonist in 21 detective/mystery novels that their author, John D. MacDonald, had published between 1964 and 1984.
Note: Travis McGee was described by Mr. MacDonald as being a comparatively big man, at 6'4" and a little over 200 lbs, who was a very tough Korean War veteran and a former professional football player, who was self employed as a part time "salvage consultant," during which times he "salvaged" the lives of certain deserving people by solving the problems that were threatening to destroy them, in return for half of the value of whatever he was able to recover for them, which he then used to finance his full time employment, which was as a "retiree," who was taking his retirement while he was still young enough to enjoy it.
Note: Travis McGee was described by Mr. MacDonald as living in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, where he lived aboard his 52' houseboat, "The Busted Flush," that was docked in Slip F-18, at the Bahia Mar Marina, where he cavorted with his best friend, Meyer (first or last name?) and a collection of other characters who all added their own special kinds of color to the proceedings.
Note: Travis McGee was never described by Mr. MacDonald as being any particular age, but if we assume that McGee was 20 years old when he went to Korea, and if we also assume that he went in 1950, then in real time McGee was in his mid 30's to his mid 50's during the period that his stories were being published.
