*In my ongoing efforts to better understand the status of the development of cars that are powered by sources other than fossil fuels, I have become impressed with the potential value of Electric Cars, which seem to me to be something that should at least be a part of the wave of the future, and as such I feel the need to share some notes about what I have learned about this subject so far.
Note: Battery Electric Vehicles (BEVs) are electric vehicles whose main source of energy comes from chemical batteries.
Note: BEVs are the most common form of what is defined by the California Air Resources Board (CARB) as zero emission (ZEV) passenger automobiles, because they produce no emissions while being driven.
Note: The electrical energy that propels a BEV is carried on board in the form various forms of battery packs.
Note: For additional range, BEVs sometimes carry genset trailers or at times even pusher "trailers."
Note: Batteries presently being used in BEVs include "flooded" lead-acid, absorbed glass mat, NiCd, nickel metal hydride, Li-ion, Li-poly and zinc-air batteries.
