*The Battle of San Jacinto was fought on April 21, 1836, near the confluence of the San Jacinto River and Buffalo Bayou, near present day city of Houston, Texas, and resulted in the Texas army, under the command of General Sam Houston, finally meeting and beating the army of the Mexican dictator, Santa Anna, and by so doing guaranteeing the Independence of the newly formed Republic of Texas.
