*After having eavesdropped on a recent conversation at a local sporting goods store, which contained many erroneous statements about what can and cannot be carried onto airliners these days, I felt the need to post the necessary corrections, which I am doing here by extracting what I believe to be the most current information from the website of the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA), which can be found by connecting to www.tsa.gov/ .

1. Ammunition...Cannot be carried on, but Can be checked in.
Note: Travelers should check with their airline or travel agent to see if ammunition is permitted in checked baggage on the airline that they are flying. If ammunition is permitted, it must be declared to the airline at check-in. Small arms ammunition for personal use must be securely packed in fiber, wood, or metal boxes or other packaging specifically designed to carry small amounts of ammunition.
