*As a possible recreational activity for senior citizens, bicycling seems to me to offer a number of possible benefits to those Senior Citizens who are in fact prepared to participate in what could otherwise be an excessively dangerous activity.
*Some of the more obvious possible benefits could include the recovery and maintenance of proper cardiovascular functions, and of balance, and of coordination, and of endurance, and of various other physical functions, as well other benefits that could include a renewed sense of accomplishment, which could lead to an increase in self confidence, which could lead to an increase in interest in getting around more, and in becoming acquaited...and/or reacquainted...with a wider variety of people and places, especially with other Senior Citizens who are also involved in bicycling, which could then leads to other possible benefits that are far too numerous to mention here.
*Of course, any discussion of whether or not any Senior Citizen should begin and/or continue bicycling should include the possibility of them being injured in a fall and/or in a collision and/or in various other ways while doing so, as well as the precautions that they should take before they decide to actually start riding, which should include at least (1) making certain that they are in fact mentally and physically able to do so, and (2) that they have the appropriate bicycle to do so, and (3) that they have equipped their "appropriate" bicycle appropriately for the kind of riding that they plan to do, and (4) that they have set up their "appropriate" bicycle appropriately for the kind of riding that they plan to do, and (5) that they have set themselves up appropriately for the kind of riding that they plan to do, all of which should bring the possibilities for the Senior Citizen being harmed while bicycling down to acceptable levels.
Note: Being a would-be rider myself, I do plan to look into this matter further, and after I find out more about it, I will be adding further postings.
