*Houston, Texas is the home of several noteworthy universities, one of which is Texas Southern University, which was created by the Texas legislature in 1947 as the Texas State University for Negroes, and which has since become one of the largest historically black universities in the US, by providing a large number of black and other minority high school graduates, many of whom would not have otherwise had a chance to do so, with the opportunity to go to college through the use of such instruments as it's current open admission policy.
Note: Texas Southern University is located on a 150 acre campus that is itself located at 3100 Cleburn Street, which is just south of downtown Houston.
